What is Solar PV?

Solar panels or PV (photovoltaics) are a renewable energy technology that converts sunlight into clean and sustainable electricity. Renewable energy generation overtook fossil fuels in the UK for the first in 2020, with the solar accounting for around 4% of this production. The PV market continues to grow, and research suggest solar could contribute as much as 20% of the UK’s energy supply by 2030.

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme provides payments for renewable microgenerators like those utilising Solar PV installations and replaces the previous Feed in Tariff (FiT) scheme as of January 2020.

Whereas Feed In Tariff prices were fixed and based on 50% the total amount of energy generated, SEG prices vary considerably between suppliers (by up to 80%) and are based on the exact amount of electricity fed back into the grid, as measured by a smart export meter.

Utilising battery storage solutions in conjunction with your solar PV panels, allows you to store the sun’s energy as electricity to use at night, or on cloudier days when there is little or no output from solar generation.
